As another school year looms in the near future, I’m busy preparing and creating materials that will help make the transition easier. You may have read my guest post in Natalie Snyder’s blog about setting up a school-wide social skills curriculum. Continuing and expanding this program will be a primary focus for me this year as well.
Modifying and creating materials has been instrumental. I also
work on emotional regulation skills my private practice, where we
specialize in social communication.
Last year my elementary students (and your!) responded incredibly well to the What Color Are My Feelings? Workbook. Since I will be collaborating with middle school teachers this year, I needed a version that would be motivating for older students.
The workbook compiles into 25 worksheets and activities targeting:
- Understanding Emotions & Feelings
- Feelings Thermometers to determine intensity of
- Staying calm
- Understanding Emotional Regulation
- Reading Your Body Signals
- Size of the Problem
- Matching Problems to Reactions
- Calm Down Strategies
