We are all frightfully busy, but before you go batty here’s a Halloween treat from the Frenzied SLPs!
My grade 3-6 crowd is loving this activity that I’ve recycled from last year. And I love that it is an activity that spans several speech sessions while targeting multiple goals!
You will need the free ipad app Puppet Pals, which allows you to record a simple production with characters and backdrops. It’s super easy to use and provides opportunities to target story retelling. My favorite book series to use with Puppet Pals is the “Old Lady Who Swallowed—-” . Prior to recording the story retell, there’s great opportunities for language practice by explaining why a particular photo was chosen as well as team work if creating the production with a partner.
My younger students are focusing on social communication and expressive language skills. The Problem With Pumpkins is a terrific book for these goals as well as social inferencing and problem solving. This is a story about a hippo and rabbit who are best friends but stop speaking to each other over a Halloween costume dilemma!
I’ve also recently hit a milestone in my TPT store and posted this freebie! My friend Lauren Marie created an original illustration and I’ve included some easy discussion questions to go along with the activity. You can grab it here at my TPT store. Please be sure to leave me some feedback if you download and enjoy!
